For anyone interested in that retro string sound from the 70’s and 80’s, you may wanna consider the Waldorf Streichfett String Synthesizer. This is a compact piece of equipment that serves as a module so that you can connect an external controller to it. It can also be served as a plugin along with your computer. The interesting thing about the Waldorf Streichfett is the infinite amount of combinations that can be created by the use of the easy to use knobs.
PROS
- Extremely easy to use since everything is right there in front of you
- Small size makes it portable and easy to travel with
- Usb powered with ability to plug into computer or outlet
- Includes old school midi ports which is not so popular with the newer equipment
- Sounds are very reminiscent of that authentic retro 70’s-80’s sound without sounding cheesy
CONS
- Limited amount of sound storage options – only allows 12 slots
- Would prefer a 1/4″ headphone jack instead of 1/8″
- Only 3 effects
Overall I actually like the Waldorf Streichfett and believe it deserves a chance to be used when it comes to making beats. If interested in purchasing, here’s an affiliate link (CLICK HERE) which would help me out. Below is a vid of me trying it out in the context of hiphop.
